Simple to make and deee..lush...ussss!!!-27 Oct 2013

Absolutely delicious!!! Lasted all of 10 minutes in my house! Needed about 50 minutes in my oven though. I did substitute mixed spice for the ground cloves (only cos I didn't have any) and I sprinkled Demerara sugar over it before baking just to give it a crunchy top.-19 Oct 2013

Watch the sugar content as I found it over sweet even though I cut the sugar by 30g. My apple sauce was made with dessert apples (no sugar added) which is why I reduced the sugar, but alas still too sweet.-27 Sep 2015

Sticky Apple Pudding Cake with Caramel Sauce

Fall seems to be the season for all things pumpkin, but personally I’m a bigger fan of all things apple this time of year. And this Sticky Apple Pudding Cake with Caramel Sauce is a new fall favorite!

I first had this cake last Thanksgiving at my parent’s house. Just in case we weren’t going to have enough to indulge in on Thanksgiving, my mom made this cake for dessert the day before.

Thank you for posting this recipe! Love this cake! Super easy…super moist. This recipe is a keeper!

I knew immediately that I had to have the recipe! This cake was absolutely heavenly!

Besides being sinfully delicious, this cake is one of those “old-fashioned” type recipes that uses simple ingredients and is easy to make. This apple cake is true down-home comfort food at its finest.

And we haven’t even discussed the caramel topping yet! It really is a must, but if you want to simplify and save time, you can use a jarred caramel sauce.

If you do use a store-bought sauce, I would recommend warming it slightly in the microwave, then serving it over the still warm cake. There’s something so wonderful about a sweet, warm dessert on a chilly fall evening.

We also topped our cake with a dollop of whipped cream. Vanilla ice cream would be another delicious addition. But when it comes right down to it, this cake is pretty amazing on its own.

You really don’t want to skip that caramel sauce though! But no matter how you top it off, this sticky apple cake is bound to be a much requested dessert all year long.

What goes in Apple Sauce

Just five ingredients are needed for this Apple Sauce! For the apples, I like to use Gala apples. They have a mild, sweet flavour which I think works well for Apple Sauce. However you can really use any variety of apples you want here. Obviously bear in mind that the flavour of the apple you use will dominate the flavour of the sauce. If you like a touch of tart, go the Granny Smith! If you want extra-sweet, go for Red Delicious or Pink Lady!

Apple Cake with Vanilla Sauce

Apple Cake with Vanilla Sauce. The cake itself is also deliciously spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and apples, making a delicious combination when paired with vanilla sauce. If you are looking for an impressive cake for a dinner party or even something a little bit special for afternoon tea one day, then I do encourage you to try this delicious apple cake whit vanilla sauce.

Apple Cake with Butterscotch Sauce

This sweet treat is so incredibly moist. It practically melts in your mouth. I love the chunks of fresh apples sprinkled throughout.

I used Gala apples in the recipe, but feel free to use whatever apples are plentiful in your home. My daughter loves Gala apples so we always keep a bag of them in the fridge for a quick, healthy snack.

You don’t even need a special occasion to make Apple Cake with Butterscotch Sauce. Do it just because. I enjoy surprising my family with sweets after a meal.

This recipe is quick to prepare and has no fancy ingredients. I bet you have everything you need to make it right now!

Steps to make Irish Apple Cake with Custard Sauce

Heat the oven and prepare a pan

Preheat the oven to 375 °F. Grease and line an 8 or 9 inch springform pan.

Sift dry ingredients

Sift 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, ⅛ teaspoon of salt, ¼ teaspoon each of ground cloves and nutmeg into a very large mixing bowl.

Cut in butter

Cut 6 ounces of butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

MIx in sugar

Add ¾ cup of sugar to the crumb mixture and stir well.

Add apple chunks

Fold the apple chunks into the flour and sugar mixture until fully combined.

Combine milk and eggs and add to flour mixture

Beat 2 eggs and ¾ cup of milk together in a separate bowl. Pour the egg mixture into the flour and apples and mix until just combined. The batter will resemble a thick dough-like mixture.

Transfer the cake mixture to the pan

Transfer the cake mixture to the prepared baking pan and flatten the top using a spatula. Sprinkle the top with 2 tablespoons of sugar.

Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Make the custard sauce

Bring 1½ cups of milk just to a boil in a small saucepan. Whisk 6 large egg yolks in a bowl with 6 tablespoons of sugar for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is pale yellow. Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture.

Thicken the sauce

Return the mixture to the saucepan. Stir constantly over medium heat for about 4 minutes, until the custard sauce thickens. When the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, stir in 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla. Transfer the sauce to a bowl or serving jug.

Serve the cake with a warm or cold custard sauce poured over.

Apple Cake with Lemon Sauce Recipe

Pour batter over apple mixture and bake approximately 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Prepare Lemon Sauce. Serve with Lemon Sauce spooned over warm cake.

In a small saucepan, mix sugar and cornstarch thoroughly. Stir in cold water until cornstarch is dissolved. Add boiling water and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and clear in color.

Remove from heat and stir in butter, lemon extract, and lemon juice set aside until ready to serve.
